Welcome to the Multicultural NSW Community Profile

2016 Census data is coming soon to this website. We're busy behind the scenes preparing the data.

The New South Wales population for 2011 was 6,917,601, of which 1,775,543 (25.7%) were born overseas.

Multicultural NSW promotes community harmony and social cohesion. It is the lead agency for implementing the policy and legislative framework to support cultural diversity and multicultural policy in NSW.

NSW was the first state in Australia and the second in the world to introduce a deliberate policy that welcomes cultural and linguistic diversity as a social and economic advantage.

The Multicultural NSW Community Profile provides a range of information on the culturally diverse population of New South Wales. Using data from the 2011 and 2006 Census, it details key social and economic characteristics of communities living across the State. A snapshot of the settlement history of the top 30 communities (bolded) in NSW, by population size, is also available.

The purpose of this profile is to assist the New South Wales population in understanding the State’s cultural diversity and the way it has changed over time. The information can be used for a variety of purposes including policy, program and service development, research and for general interest.
