The ancestry groups 'Australian Aboriginal' and 'Torres Strait Islander' have been excluded from the Multicultural NSW profile. The reason for this is that less than 25% of the NSW Indigenous population stated their ancestry as 'Australian Aboriginal' or 'Torres Strait Islander'. Indigenous populations are better measured through the Indigenous Status question of the Census which is specifically designed to measure this group. As this profile currently supports identification by Ancestry, it was felt that the inclusion of the small subset of Indigenous people who nominated their ancestry as 'Australian Aboriginal' or 'Torres Strait Islander' would be misleading.
